Beginning of Bubonic Plague
The Bubonic Plague was best known because of the Great Plague of London in the 14th century that killed one-third of Europe's population. However, it did not originally start in Europe.
It is believed that the Black Death began in Central Asia, or perhaps China and traveled by traders along the Silk Road to Crimea in 1346, some say it was carried to Italy in 1347, then spread to Europe and Mediterranean on ships, which carried Oriental rat fleas living on the blood of the black rats.
A memoir by Italian Gabrielle de' Mussi is a source of the Black Death Origin. It speaks of the Mongol army in 1346 using biological warfare by hurling plague bodies into the besieged Crimean city of Caffa, the survivors of the city fled to the country and spread the disease. 30-60% of Europe perished. The plague ended by 1351, but small outbreaks happened occasionally for many decades.
